When You Run a Marathon

When training for a marathon (26.2 miles – yes, I ran two of them) the most important thing come race day is not changing a thing. Race day is not the day to wear a new outfit, try a new supplement, wear new running shoes or do anything that you did not do over your 18 or so months of training. Why? Because that new outfit could cause chaffing, the supplement could make you sick, and those new shoes could cause blisters, put simply: by trying something new on race day you risk throwing off your entire rhythm and could end up torn up on the inside and out.

For the compound effect to work in a positive way, you have to consistently make the right small choices over an extended period of time.

All of that being said, today GenYus , the one-stop-shop for all things pertaining to the exceptional Millennial will launch. I could spend the entire day toiling over the launch, but here’s the thing…I’ve told you about my breakfast of champions and today is race day. Time to get into the word, meditate, exercise, and come back fired up and focused ready to deliver a knockout punch. Today is like every other day – by design.

I just have one question?

@yobholmes (www.yobholmes.com) are you ready?

Breakfast of Champions – Mmmmm

*Why this did not post yesterday…I have no idea :-(

My mentor, Jim Rohn, said that the mind needs to be nourished just like the body.

Lately, my breakfast of champions has consisted of:

  • A warm cup of the word (that’s code for the Bible)
  • A bowl of meditation (thank you Alicia – Lectio Divina is working!)
  • A tall glass of physical exercise (my personal trainer Rabih is the best!)
  • A vitamin pack of good words (www.yobholmes.com, http://www.sethgodin.com and more!)

It’s important to have a good diet for the mind and body before taking on what this world likes to throw our way. Oh and yeah, the normal high fiber and protein breakfast is thrown in there too :-)

What does your breakfast of champions consistent of?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Can’t wait to film my next video blog post and launch GenYus on Saturday!

No More Excuses

Are there legitimate excuses? Yes. But when it comes to launching something EPIC; again, we must go to the mat and pin the only person we can truly hold accountable for our shortcomings.

Know who this opponent is?

I’ll give you a hint. Look in the mirror.

Ditch the excuses and kill the distractions, the world needs your best work.

Such Timely Lyrics – Listen Here…

Hey Tony! If you’re singing about #GenYus, then you’re right…it is coming – March 31st

“If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you won’t, you most assuredly won’t. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.” – Denis Waitley

Do You Use Sarcasm to Cope?

As the elevator doors closed I heard two office bees buzzing:

Bee #1: Hey man how’s it going?

Bee #2: (sarcastically replies) Just another day in paradise my man

Bee #1: Yeah…I hear ya man

Both bees buzz a lethargic sigh in unison, shake their heads, and fly around the corner to the swarm of worker bees fueling up on coffee and caffiene in the overly priced hive cafe. They’ll later meet at the hive urinal and probably buzz the same meaningless pleasantries. While bee #2 contemplates stinging someone and putting himself out of his misery.

LESSON of the DAY: If you’re using sarcasm as means to cope with your current situation. It may be time you buzz off or as @yobholmes likes to say BREAK FREE!

3 Ways to tell if You’re a Robot

Answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the following three questions to find out if you’re a robot.

1. I rarely ask why I’m doing whatever it is that I’m doing (this could be your job, a directive from a boss, loved one, or simply a recreational activity you partake in, or daily ritual)

2. I often regurgitate thoughts or sound bytes that I’m not even sure I believe or fully understand

3. I have NOT cried within the past 365 days

RESULTS

If you answered yes to all 3 of these questions…you are a robot. (oh dear…stay faithful, there is hope for you)

If you answered yes to 2 of the 3 questions …you are a semi-bot. (*sighs and shakes head with a concerned look – but hopeful)

If you answered yes to 1 of the 3 questions… you are not a robot; however, you are exhibiting bot-like tendencies and  it’s best that you avoid robots and semi-bots at all costs; your condition will only get worse. (heed my advice young grasshopper)

If you did not answer yes to a single question, congratulations! You’re NOT a robot.

If you are a robot, semi-bot, or exhibiting bot-like behaviors, do not fret my dear…it’s really not your fault, tomorrow’s post will reveal how to deprogram yourself, but for now… Here’s some food for thought.

“Do not apologize for crying. Without this emotion, we are only robots.”

What’s the Big Idea?

There’s been a lot of dialogue about my fellow Gen Y peeps having issues finding a job after college. People are starting to question the value of the bachelors degree; especially, since we’ve all been told we must have one if we expect to get a decent job. One bad thing about this scenario is that the jobs many of my peers are taking post undergrad really don’t require a formal degree in order to do the work. Worst of all is the fact that many of my peers are still being fed outdated “if, then” messages like: “If you go to college and get a degree, then you’ll get a great job (with benefits)!” – Not necessarily.

So what’s the Big Idea? Why do we continue to feed one another expensive and outdated ideas for survival in this connected revolution. Why must courses on personal finance, leadership, spirituality, physical fitness, and personal development all be electives? It seems like these are a few areas where we could all use some form of formal teaching.

The Big Idea is that we need more ideas in order to survive. Simply feeding one another incorrect formulas for success is just plain stupid. Yes, it’s true that we don’t know what we don’t know; but sooner or later (hopefully sooner) you will arrive at a point where you realize that your current situation is not really working for you, and then it’s going to take a big idea- perhaps and unconventional idea, one that leads to dissension amongst you and your loved ones, and overwhelming feelings of self-doubt…this is when you know you’re on to something BIG.

Go to the mat, wrestle it out, ask God (or whomever you worship) for clarity, and get ready to play in a brand new space. It’s a new economy with new rules and skills required for success, and the sooner we figure this out, the better off we’ll all be.
