Whole

I’ve been here before.

But this time…it’s different. I actually get it.

And not only do I get it…I’m finally embracing and claiming it – never to let it go again.

Self-actualization.

Stepping into who we know we are and walking into who we are meant to become is a force unlike any other. Things start happening. People appear, some disappear and opportunities show up in the most unthinkable places. Not only do you reveal yourself, but you make a decision. You decide, that the cost (guilt of living your life knowing that you didn’t live up to your full potential) is unbearable. Therefore, you walk forward on legs of faith knowing that you (as you are) have everything you need. It’s in that moment that the possibilities for you become infinite.

Better than You

There’s no use comparing yourself to other people. Real success comes from doing the best you can.

My Grandmother used to always say, “When you do the best you can do, you’ll never have anything to cry about.”

It’s when we don’t do our best (and only we as individuals truly know what that looks and/or feels like) that we can begin to feel guilty, ashamed or not worthy. While it’s easier said than done, I know that in order for me to leave a legacy, just like my Grandmother, I have to preach what I practice.

Therefore, doing the best I can, is my only option.

No Excuses = New Experiences

Today would have been the perfect day to get off track. I laced up my running shoes to knock out my last fundamental to jump start a great day (exercise), stepped outside, and… it’s raining.

Here’s the thing about the commitments we make to ourselves. When you drill into those key things that you know you must do on a daily basis that will (overtime) improve the quality of your life, you cannot let anything stop you.

Not even a little rain.

Today is another part of your masterpiece. Do what you know you must, but most importantly, have fun while you’re at it.

You’re probably thinking…yo Theresa, running in the rain first thing in the morning does not sound like fun at all.

My response: Don’t knock it until you try it, and if you need a little boost…don’t dodge that first puddle, jump right into it like the child you know you are. Fearless and excited for the next obstacle. Because with each new obstacle comes a new experience and every new experiences reminds you that you’re alive.

MAKE TODAY COUNT!

Making the Most

Yesterday I received the news that someone close to a member of my family was just told that they have 12 hours left to live.

This morning I was reminded by my devotional to, “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”  – Ephesians 5: 15-16

The sad news, plus this timely devotional reminder has me examining exactly how I am spending my time. I am now left pondering one simple question: am I making the most of this opportunity?

Am I prepared to make the most of this day…this full 24 hours?

What if I only had 12 hours?

So often we say things like, “there’s not enough hours in the day.” We say this because we’re frustrated that we can’t seem to fit in everything that we have to do, and everything that we want to do into those short 24 hours.

Something deep inside of me knows…that if I had less than a day left to do what I wanted to do and  say what I needed to say (I love you), I’d find a way to make it happen. But why don’t I live with that conviction every day?

The professor who changed my life signs his e-mails saying, “Make Today Count!” I’ve adopted this saying and conclude my e-mail messages the same; but today, and my prayer is that everyday, going forward it’s not just something I say, but something that I do.

So go on, make the most of today; but most importantly…

Make Today Count!

Go Big or Go Home?

Life is too short to live up to the expectations of someone else, or even worse, another person’s definition of success.

It doesn’t take a therapist to figure out if you’re happy or not.

We say we feel like _________ because that emotion, has manifested itself into a sensation inside our body that we actually do experience.

Oftentimes we  experience unhappiness, because we feel like we no longer have control. We start playing the blame game as to why we don’t have nor are we who or what we thought we would be at this stage of our lives. We think we don’t have any control over our current situation, when in fact, that is not true at all.

It is at this point of self-awareness where people make one of two choices: they either A) Go home and continue playing the blame game with their friends and family, because that’s a hell of a lot easier than facing their demons and creating the life they were destined to live or B) they put their game face on and GO BIG. I’m talkin’ crazy big. The kind of big where your friends and family (out of love) caution you and suggest that you harness that ambition and be “realistic.”

The kind of big with choice B) is the kind where your dream actually scares you.

Those who GO BIG do this  knowing that if they fail, at least when they look in the mirror, they know that they did everything in their power to create their destiny.

I know my choice.

Why I went dark

A 30 day yotherescampbell.com sabbatical…what gives?

You’re probably thinking…I thought you were all about “honoring your commitments” and finishing out that video challenge. Where’s the honor in that?

Here’s the deal.

I went dark because I needed to retreat to a quiet place so that I could really focus. I needed to turn off everything and search within to determine how I would approach not just the last 30 days of my life but the remainder going forward.

The video challenge taught me two very important things about myself. I really do enjoy creating videos; however, I have no desire to edit them. And while I am a disciplined person, I wasn’t feeling fired up to create a video every single day for 30 days.

For me, this year has been all about living my calling (using my signature strengths on a daily basis) while being guided by my personal values.

What are my core values?

  1. God
  2. Authenticity
  3. Integrity
  4. Love
  5. Inspiration

By saying, you know what?…this video challenge really isn’t working out for me right now, at this point in my life, was actually a form of me staying in integrity and being true to myself. Talk about authenticity. Truth is…I needed to focus on my passion project by continuing to work my calling and my career.

I spent the last 30 days intensely focused on doing the work and while I am tired, I am fulfilled. While I am confident, I am calculated. While I am bound…I am free.

It feels good to be back.

Want to Know Your Superpower?

We were all put on this earth with a gift. A talent. A superpower that should be used for the greater good of mankind. But somewhere between elementary school and the real world, society has rewarded the average. Those who have been compliant order takers in a system designed to reward those who do not have to think. They just do what they are told. They’re not asked to be creative, and they’re not asked to harness their superpower. The system is designed for the average. But I’m here to tell you that the game has changed my friend; even though…the system has not.

Ready to be an outlier?

Let me cut to the chase. In order for you to live an extraordinary life. The life you dream about during your day job and get stirred up over when you see someone else living your dream lifestyle… you have do to one thing. You have to use your superpowers on a daily basis to create that life. You can’t create it…if you’re not using your superpower.

That life is here…waiting for you. You just have to use your superpowers to get it.

Don’t know what your superpower is?Don’t worry. My dear friend Brandi and I are here to help! We’re offering a free 30 minute online course – yeah I said free :-) To help you discover your superpower so you can design your own extraordinary life. GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!

When I was in high school I remember coming across a quote that read, “excuses are for people that don’t get things done.”

Dr. David Schwartz in his book The Magic of Thinking Big, talks about a serious illness called excusitis. He basically says that people who are average or mediocre tend to have excuses for why they can’t go after achieving their dreams and goals. They have this disease which leads to failure or complacency called, “excusitis.” Simply put, these folks always have an excuse as to why they can’t get something done. They often say things like: “I don’t have the time. I don’t have the money. I’m not smart enough.  I didn’t come from the right family.” All of this is bullshit.

Clearly I’m fired up!

I don’t have all of the answers and I am guilty of having made excuses in the past for not chasing my dreams and potential. But you know what? Something inside me changed. I started to own each and every decision I was making. No longer would other people chart the course of my life. It is mine for the taking and guess what?…I’m taking it, AND YOU CAN DO THE SAME!

All you have to do is get out of your own way and declare that YOU can and will make your dreams come true. Cause you know what? No one else is going to make your dreams come true: ’cause their too busy working on their own dreams or are running on their hamster wheel and don’t seem to want to notice that there’s more to life than “just getting by”…or “hanging in there for a few more years.”

Stop hiding behind excuses because you’re afraid of failure. Just Do It – says Nike…and if you fail, who gives a shit? At least you (unlike the rest of the hamsters) got off the wheel and tried to make something happen.

If you’re fired up and are ready to take responsibility for your life, own each and every one of your decisions like the freaking grown up that you are, then leave me a comment and let me know I’m not the only one.  Cause one thing’s for sure… I sure as hell don’t want to hear anymore excuses.

And seriously…if you want to start taking control of your life and need someone to talk to because you don’t even know where to start…hit me up via e-mail at wattsthe@gmail.com – I’d love to talk to you! Just do me a favor and make the subject line: “I want to get off the hamster wheel.”

Secrets Secrets or Not Really

So today was hysterical. Oh social media how I love thee…

Today we posted a highly emotional and authentic article  on our passion project website. The post was written by one of our dear friends as she retold the story of giving her three week’s notice and breaking up with the company she served for seven years.

It was beautifully written love story, that ends with both parties agreeing to see other people :-)

Much to our friend’s surprise…this blog post was printed out and handed to her when she walked into work this morning. Yikes!  Did I  forget to mention that my friend and co-founder of this passion project also work at the same company of our friend who resigned!?! Double yikes!

*Cue three nervous girls on a conference call freaking out about who else within the walls of our organization would: read this post, share it across regions via e-mail (like this guy did), or even scarier… click on the  ‘contact us’ link and expose us (fellow employees) for the truth preachers that we are? It was so crazy. Would we get a call from HR?  What would happen next?

Nothing.

Except a few ‘likes,’ and confused text messages and e-mails from folks trying to figure out who really quit.

I guess good news  still travels really fast (thanks to Facebook); especially prior to 8am. It seems like Corporate America can still be like high school…or is reading published news about a break up just that hard to keep your hand off of?
