Keep stepping

Guided by our values we face our fears and walk by faith.

Guided by our values we embrace our potential and walk into our most authentic self.

Guided by our values we do the impossible simply because we know that in the end we’ll be okay.

You are loved. You are enough. You are perfect – just as you are – so keep stepping.

When we surrender

So often the greatest advice is either so simple that we’re embarrassed we made seeking a solution so complex, or the advice is counter-intuitive and you would have never thought of it.

Today I’ll take counter-intuitive for $200 Alex.

When we surrender, something beautiful happens. We actually give ourselves permission to be our most authentic selves and the byproduct of surrendering just happens to be success.

When we surrender we allow something magnificent to work through us and that’s when the magic happens. So as you continue to do the work that you were put on this earth to do, or if you’re struggling to just let go, be yourself, or even just give the new person you’re dating a total glimpse into your true essence. My advice to you…surrender.

Let go.

And for my spiritual friends, “let go and let God.”

Just close your eyes…lean in…and

Did you think I was going to say pucker up? Well save that kiss for yourself  after you’ve finished listening… I mean really having listened… intently. You’ll want to kiss yourself.

The quote, “God gave us two ears and one mouth, so we can hear twice as much as we say,” used to bug me. I honestly can’t tell you why? Probably because I was too busy talking :-)

All jokes aside. This year has turned out to be another great year of coaching for me; however, this year…I am not the coach. If I have learned anything in the first 120 days of this year…it’s that I need to as my dear friend Sporty King gently reminded me to, “shhhhhh shhhhhhhh….you hear that? That’s the train coming into the station shhhhhhhhhh shhhhhhh.” It was his gentle way of saying, be quiet. Stop justifying what you have already told me, and just listen to me.

I have to listen to my personal trainer when he tells me in response to my “I’m a bad billboard for your business” outburst. “T…you’re not a bad billboard. You a great billboard! But you have to listen to me when I tell you, there are things about your diet that you have to change.”

I have to listen when my life coach says, “…your goal is not to quit your job. Your goal is to be your most authentic self on a daily basis.” It’s pretty easy to listen when you’ve been gut punched.

The funny thing is, during my Master’s program, I had the privilege of being in Dr. Rick’s Leadership course. This course ended up being all about planting and watering listening seeds for leadership. The great thing about Dr. Rick’s message, is that not only is he a walking billboard for listening leaders; but he preached, that like anything worth having or doing  it was going to take work. Hard work to become and remain a listening leader. There will be a journey, and our job is not simply to enjoy the journey, but to also shut up long enough to not only listen to our guides along the way, but also listen to ourselves. The answers we are searching for lie inside of each of us…we just need to let the train pull into the station and stop (talking) so we can hear what’s about to unload.

Okay, now you can close your eyes…lean in… and kiss yourself for having listened.

What’s Your Super Power?

Last summer I applied to volunteer to breathe life into something bigger than myself.

I applied to help 1 million innovators achieve the impossible. One of the questions on the application asked something along the lines of…“what is your super power?” In short, what do you bring to the table that is valuable and unique; and why would someone miss you if you were gone?

I loved this question because it forced me to think about how I truly add value. Not just in a worker bee sense but in all areas of my life. This question and everything that unfolded afterwards led me down a path of purpose discovery. I was also able to further anchor a deeper commitment to myself and those that I serve  to being my most authentic self. You can’t hide from yourself, so you may as well embrace who you are, where you are and use your super power as often as possible in a positve way. What I found is when you use your super power, and you are your most authentic self. You insipre others to do the same.

Go on…leave a comment and tell me your super power. I believe we all have one, and now may be the time you embrace it, and openly share your gift with the rest of your world. So what is it? …What’s your super power?

Are You Authentic?

One of the easiest ways to find out is to ask yourself the question “do I preach what I practice?” And no, I did not mix up the saying. If we truly believe the things that we preach to others then quite simply, we should be doing those things. People who are broke can often be found preaching financial advice. People who are not fit often preach health and wellness advice. These are two common examples that we see very often. Now am I suggesting that the advice that these people are giving is incorrect? Absolutely not! There are many people who study and research their way into being a subject matter expert which is great. The problem is when we really want our message to stick; people are looking for us to lead by example, live our message, and be the evidence…and that I believe is the true test of authenticity.
