When we surrender

So often the greatest advice is either so simple that we’re embarrassed we made seeking a solution so complex, or the advice is counter-intuitive and you would have never thought of it.

Today I’ll take counter-intuitive for $200 Alex.

When we surrender, something beautiful happens. We actually give ourselves permission to be our most authentic selves and the byproduct of surrendering just happens to be success.

When we surrender we allow something magnificent to work through us and that’s when the magic happens. So as you continue to do the work that you were put on this earth to do, or if you’re struggling to just let go, be yourself, or even just give the new person you’re dating a total glimpse into your true essence. My advice to you…surrender.

Let go.

And for my spiritual friends, “let go and let God.”

Do What You Say You’re Going to Do

Seth Godin calls it “shipping.” Couples call it “commitment.” Friends call it “trust.” Either way…when you do what you say you’re going to do life just feels better.

Is this something I need to work on? Absolutely!

In the past I didn’t really focus on keeping up with my commitments because while I was overextended, believe it or not, I still had the bandwidth to do what I needed to do, and do it very well.  These days, I’ve been working a ton on my passion project…you know, the work that makes me come alive. The work that I can get lost in for hours, and I’m not even getting paid to do. My calling. While this is great…the time I use on my passion project spills over into the time I have allocated for other things; and as a result,  I’ve found myself slipping.

So…to counteract this, I’ve had to whip out the “P” word. PROMISE. I have a handful of people over the last 60 days in all areas of my life that I told I would do something and I haven’t gotten to it yet. Surprisingly, they are not mad. They know what I’ve been doing in my spare time and are so understanding. However, I know that long-term success comes from doing what I say I’m going to do. Shipping the project, keeping that commitment, and honoring the trust that I have worked hard to earn over the years. So if it takes using the “P” word to course correct…I’m game. All the while realizing that in the grand scheme of things this is not a game. My word is my bond and at the end of the day…those words say a lot about my personal integrity. I want to remain whole and it will start and end with honoring my commitments. It really is that simple.

Are you doing what you’re saying your going to do?

Starting from Scratch

It seems like everything always tastes better when it’s made from scratch. We take a few simple ingredients, add a little of this, with a little bit of that, sprinkle in some love and BAM! We’ve got something really delicious. Perhaps even a family recipe.

The great thing about today being the start of a new month is that, if we choose, we can start from scratch. Let me be clear, I’m not saying that you can’t start over at any point in time; however, it feels right for me to talk about this today.

With whatever you’re setting out to do, remember that everything always tastes better when it’s made from scratch. Stop running around trying to find the the “complete” version of what you’re trying to create. Remember…the best foods and wins in life, didn’t appear because you just added water.

Looking to: Get rich quick? Loss weight in a week? Get your first 1,000 followers? Find the love of your life? You can do all of this: but I can assure you, while your final dish will suppress your appetite…it won’t fill you up.

It’s time to enjoy the journey. Carefully select your ingredients, keeping in my to keep it simple. Take note of how much of this and how much of that you’re tossing into the mix and remember… if the edges get a little burned, it’s okay. That’s a  sign you know it was made with love.

Go on…whip something up from scratch this month :-)
